Cross-Column

I was under the weather for the last month and I will be posting again soon.

About this blog

(in progress)

The motivation behind this blog was to keep all members of chabura up to date, as the chabura progressed through sefer Ben Melech. The reason why that was needed, is that the chabura learns together at an inopportune time (Sunday night at 7:30) and a more convenient time has yet to be found. As is self-evident to most, Sunday night is usually a night reserved for family and social obligations.

Experience has so far shown, that if people miss 2 or 3 weeks in a row, they are likely to feel that they have missed too much material to make their involvement with the chabura worthwhile. This chabura has been very fortunate in attracting people who related very easily to what was learned in Emunah uBitachon Chazon Ish and now Ben Melech. Each person brought with them, ideas and questions that sharpened the focus of the learning and discussions. It would benefit everyone in the chabura, if those viewpoints would continue to be heard. So in an attempt to minimize that effect on the chabura members, this blog was started. As you can see, that goal has not been attained yet. Transcribing rough notes from scraps of paper and short memory, has made the task more time and energy intensive, delaying the posting of all that we have learned on hishtadlus.

In addition, there has been some interest expressed by people outside of the chabura, that in lieu of making recordings available, a blog may be of some value. If there are others with whom the contents of this blog resonates, the effort to transcribe the notes of the chabura will have been rewarded.

Please pardon the over-use of English where Hebrew would be a simpler and better way to communicate. The difficulty of weaving Hebrew into what is otherwise an English language blog post, thwarted my attempts at writing in my native Yeshivish.

This chabura is about avodas HaShem, about making emunah, bitachon and hishtadlus a very real part of our lives. It is not a hashkafa shiur. Hopefully this blog will reflect that as well.

While other opinions are respected, this chabura has set for itself the goal of taking one approach and working it through the gamut of issues and scenarios that arise, through the lens of the shita that we are learning. Submissions should basically be following the overall approach and direction that this chabura is taking in studying emunah, bitachon and hishtadlus. To this end, this blog is moderated. All comments will be reviewed before being posted. This may cause a delay in comments becoming visible.
